Ok, it's not heavy metal ~ but metal. My first week down with 4 more to go ~ I pulled together a presentation of products and artwork that I'm really happy with. I believe I have come a long, long way in Photoshop-ing skills. I know there is lots more growth to go but I've already learned a few more things while putting this together. As far as product design, I think I have endless ideas ~ it was so much fun putting a look together that I would buy in a store.
I'm starting a new class tomorrow - really looking forward to having some direction and focus the next 5 weeks. I was SO debating on taking this class and make this new investment in my art ~ which I've been doing with other classes the last 5(?) years or hold off until next year when my youngest will be in school. It's been awhile since I've taken an intensive class like this, the last one being Make Art that Sells part A (another class with Lilla Rogers) which I learned SO much from. Designing home décor pieces is exactly what I love to do - and I constantly have ideas in my head, which is not always a good thing because I can't always just shut that part of my brain off. I flip thru catalogs, watch Hgtv decorating shows, google ideas, Pinterest, blogs etc. and I paint, paint, paint (and I take lots of notes on painting ideas, product ideas). It's a full time job except it's not really my job ~ I just want it to be, like next year, in the fall! Wish me luck.
I'm very excited - I have a great opportunity to learn how to get these product ideas, colors, textures, patterns (wow!) out into home décor land. This is a class I've been waiting for - combining my love for decorating and passion for painting colliding. Sweet. I'm diving in and it's going to be intense BUT I've been there with the other MATS class. I learned so much and grown - the timing couldn't be better. My youngest will be in school next year so this class and all the absorbing through classes, tutorials, googling, periscoping, consulting, mentoring I've been blessed with will come full circle. Exciting!
Off to a great start for my newbie artist self. I joined a challenge with Jennifer Orkin Lewis, Courtney Cerruti, Meighan O'Toole and Erika Seers. I would tag them and send you to their website if I knew how, WHICH leads me to my next point. I am STRUGGLING with social media. I just added Instagram and Twitter per a recommendation from Jennifer Nelson (I would tag her too but ya know...). So, learning the ropes - how to, when, what, where, you seeing my point? Did you know you can only post to Instagram from your phone? or at least you can't post from your laptop? I always scan and upload my paintings to my laptop then over to Photoshop and back to my laptop for saving...it's a process I also had to maneuver my way through. Gladly, that process I've become fairly proficient at since Lilla Roger's MATS class (I'd link to it here but you guessed it, have to figure that out). I guess this is a long story but I'll type it anyway - long story short (haha) I've had quite the morning trying to upload the first of this month's challenge (back to the challenge, sorry for the turn). This months challenge was BLUE. I like blue, kind of fitting lately...feeling the blues on the social media part. Will I ever get this figured out?? Below is my piece...and thanks for the challenge ladies -I'm high fiving you (cause, again, can't figure out how to tag you).
I hope everyone had a wonderful couple of weeks. I am very excited about some upcoming projects and ideas for 2016. More paintings and some collection ideas are in the works - it's going to be very busy.
I am also on Instagram and Twitter - so stay tuned for more quick glances and updates about what's going on around here.
Have a great week !
